Wiertalla.de: shutdown, memorial and reconstruction

    It has been a long time since I last wrote in this corner of the forums. I think it has been since 2022, when helwie44 † left us.

    The reason I am writing this message is for asking both your forgiveness and your help.

    When he passed away it took me for surprise and didn't know how to act. But a year later I decided to preserve his work so I contacted his heirs and got the approval to host in my own site a memorial and a copy of his own. We even considered to pass on the ownership of the original site but this wasn't possible. Unfortunately we were in the middle of the talks when the site was shut down and erased. For this reason, I ask you please forgive me. If I had moved sooner this wouldn't have happened. I don't know how many things we did lose in that shutdown.

    Fortunately, I made a backup of the site prior to its shutdown, but it is a shallow copy and many things are broken. I do know other Alphatronic users also made their own backups. So please, could you share them with me? I need your help to restore the site. I actually have it working right now but some parts are missing or not working.

    Yes, I am aware of it. Still, he added some stuff later on as the community started to grow sorrounding the P2. Also, I don't know how much time that copy will remain online.

    Thank you very much for all this data. I have already found some files from your first pack that will help replace corrrupted files on my backup.

    On a side note, I have been able to restore the character ROM viewer that I wrote for him. However, a ROM is still missing: ITT_CRTC.bin. Does anybody know where could I find that character generator so that part could be completed?

    After Mr. Wiertalla died, I tried to scrape the entire website. I can't promise that it's complete. But please take a look for yourself in the attached ZIP file.

    Once you are finished, I like to mirror the site on our server, if you don't mind. As a non-profit organization, the VzEkC e.V. does not depend on one person and will (hopefully) last for a long time.

    Reading the driver of the Alphatronic P2 in MAME made me figure what is the missing ROM. It is the one from the ITT Nano 2500. Does anybody have it, by chance?

    Yesterday I got the consentment of his family to make mirrors. fishermansfriendtoo 's backup or RetroGuy 's one are a good start. If you are interested, I can provide the missing files for the character ROM visor. Thanks to rfka01 I was able to find even the last one.

    My only request if you do so would be to make the now-index page to be a normal page and create a new index page stating that the owner is not here with us anymore, and that this is a mirror brought up for education and learning purposes.

    In any case, thank you all the involved for allowing me to restore his site and also for willing to help preserve Helmut's legacy. I am very grateful to you.
