Nice to meet you too! Please say Hello to Horst / Prof. Oberquelle, my regards, and the rest of the old guard at the Informatikum Hamburg. Hope to see some more YouTube videos from the CHM at some point.

I will absolutely say Hi to Horst in your name. :)

As for the videos, yes - it would be fantastic if we could set up a proper youtube channel, there are just so many treasures in the Museum. There could be resurrection / restoration videos, but also history related contents, system comparisons etc...

    cheers,

A little update on my giant struggle.

I've built x1541 's universal RAM/ROM expansion that Toast_r was so kind and sent me the board and GAL for.

To make sure that the exp.board itself is working I've put it into my VIC-20 and it seemed to be fine at first.

As the PET didn't react positively to the expansion board, I took the advice of Toast_r to build a NOP generator.

I've found two track related issues with the NOP generator and fixed them. Now all A,BA,BD,BBD,SEL,CS lines are good.

The signals on some lines are a bit noisy, but within the tolerance of TTL standards.

When I place back the CPU, ROMs, 4x RAMs, and the VIA, the machine is still showing the garbage screen. :(

I did the " detlef mod" on the BA11 lines to accomodate 2732 type ROMs in all sockets - except char_gen - but those lines are fine.

As I am able to tell, the contents of the ROMs and their order should be all good:

    LOW ACTIVE ( BA11 )

    H1: 901447-1 $C000

    H2: 901447-3 $D000

    H3: 901447-5 $E000

    H4: 901447-6 $F000

    HIGH ACTIVE ( BA11 Inverted )

    H5: 901447-2 $C800

    H6: 901447-4 $D800

    H7: 901447-7 $F800

I've tested the RAMs in my DIY tester, and I think 2k should be enough, but not so sure anymore.

Now it would be good if the expansion board was working, but it clearly isn't - still something wrong with the GAL programming...

( Can't make it work in the VIC again. The RAM expansion was working once, but the ROM wasn't. I've reprogrammed the GAL, now nothing

    seems to work. )

    Hey Michael / MicrotronicHamburg !

    Nice to meet you :)

Thanks for the donations! I am trying my best to keep the items in the collection in good condition.

( Although sometimes I feel it would be really nice if there were more of us. )

So hans it seems like we need to use your equipment after all to dump the cartridge. :)

On the bottom I can read "(c) 1990 PROMIGOS"

This is basically the same thing like the one on the schematic. Serial MIDI was very common, most MIDI software should support it.
If you have at least 2MB fast RAM I would suggest trying out Bars and Pipes first. :)

Mir ist ein Amiga MIDI Interface zugeflogen ... Leider ist kein Hinweis auf einen Hersteller oder so aufgedruckt. Weiss zufällig jemand, mit welcher Software das Teil benutzbar ist?

Would you mind opening up the box and show the internals?

MIDI on Amiga was pretty dead simple to achieve:

    Best MIDI App ever:
    Bars and Pipes

We have got an expansion system, with a floppy drive in it. I'll check if it is operational.

Nice! If you have no experience with the system, put in an Extended Basic (XB) cartridge and start the machine. XB automatically loads the file "LOAD" from the floppy, so you should see disk activity when XB starts. Alternatively, if you have a Disk Manager cartridge, you can use that to read, write and format floppies.

But: The TI Disk Controller does not provide any way to run machine language programs, so you'll still need to have some hardware that helps you do that. Have a look inside the PEB, maybe you're lucky and it contains some third party hardware. Send photos if you need help identifying things.

Thanks, will do. Probably next weekend though. :)

    Dear all,

I am looking on behalf of CMH for a TI99 module named "Computergrafik". It holds a demonstration program ( among other things ) from Herbert W. Franke - named Mondrian.

His wife sent us her last remaining module, so in case no one has such a spare cartridge my other question would be how to replicate it?

    Thanks,

    nils

The first question should be... is there any interest and if so, who would like to get such a card... just to ensure the spent development time is worthwhile?

Additionally, who can share an Apple PAL Encoder card temporarily to clone this?

    Yes!

I am definitely going to go with the NTSC mod for this occassion, given the timeframe we need to make this work.

I do not own a Europlus, and my //e has proper color PAL output, so...

Nonetheless I am open to design a clone card if there is an actual demand.

I've been looking through a couple of video card projects and the most interesting is the VGA scaler hans bought,

that seems to be sniffing everything from the BUS, it handles all video modes and creates a shadow framebuffer

that is outputted as high quality RGB. ( Kudos to the A2 Heaven Team )

I remember that I have had a similar behavior with a LDC-Screen from a car DVD-player. With the color demo from the original DOS 3.3 disk it seems to work fine and show colors. But when I started one of my famous games (Loadrunner) I see that the colors vary from the left to the right side of display just like a rainbow. So a brick in the game (which should be blue) was displayed in different colors depending of its position on the screen. Maybe you have the same effect. I did not see colors on any other screen nor with any converters. I did no modofication to my Apple II europlus because I have now an Apple IIe that shows colors and a PAL modulator for the Apple IIc that works as well.

Indeed this is the case - mis(t)ery solved:

    Just for reference.

This is the Apple ][ Europlus ( has no type sticker on the bottom :(

    It is configured as PAL:

    The crystal (14.25045MHz) :

Line sync pulse and color burst:

    Picture information:

The colors appear like this on the NTSC/PAL LCD ( it's just a small basic program that iterates through all colors and plots them )

    Thanks everyone,

just to sum it up again, I have a 1982 PAL version //e with a MONO/COLOR switch on the main board, this one outputs color PAL signal as expected that any monitor can handle.

In the museum there is an older //e ( I didn't take a note of the assy number ) that has no MONO/COLOR switch, and outputs B/W signal. This is fine like this as well.

The problem is that we have an Apple II EuroPlus we would like to put to an exhibition to display colorful art pieces. What confused me is that it does display color on my small LCD screen, but B/W on every single other monitor. This is why I asked if anyone knows about a type of a monitor that would probably work without any modifications or addons.

PALCoder cards are very hard to come by so I've started to redesign the PALCoder card according to Patrick Schaefer's documentation, but the schematic seems a bit fishy. If anyone could take a look and do a schematic review together I would appreciate it, also that could mean a nice easy to replicate open source version of the card at the end.

Thanks for the tip Joe_IBM on the NTSC mod - it also crossed my mind, because that would mean that we only have to be sure that the monitor can handle NTSC and that would be a more clear situation.

    cheers,

    m.

    Die Frage bleibt also bestehen:

    cheers,

    nils

    Moin Moin,

I see that there are at least 40 of us living in Hamburg.

Do you ever organize a meeting / gettogether / whatnot ?

Also, if any of you know a hidden shop for electronic parts - besides Conrad - please share the information. :)

    cheers,

    nils

I've received the RAM/ROM board today, looked into the drawer and managed to get this far:

I've ordered the RAM, it should be here in 2 days, but I couldn't find preci-dip headers . . . I'll keep looking.

    Thank You Toast_r !
