ZitatAlles anzeigenModel CPU Introduction Static RAM Memory
ET-3400 6800 1976 256 bytes 2 chips - 2112 - expandable to 4x2112 = 512 bytes
ET-3400A 6808 1981 512* bytes 2 chips - 2114
ET-3400A 6802 1987 512* bytes 2 chips - 2114
The original ET-3400 came with two 2112's which yielded 256 bytes and two additional empty sockets.
The "Microprocessors" course provided two more 2112's, and you'd plug them into the extra sockets and get your 512 bytes.
Although one can get 1024 bytes from two 2114 chips, the ET-3400A grounds the A9 pins on these parts, thus reducing the
pair to 512 bytes. I expect this was done to preserve compatibility with any circuits or lessons people had developed that
might have decoded additional ram starting at 0x0200.
The 3400 uses a mask-programmed 1K ROM, with a non-standard pinout and the logic levels to CS, CE are inverted.
The 3400A uses a 'standard' 2K ROM that can be replaced with a 2716 EPROM. The code in this version resides in the upper
half of the memory.
Therefore the ROMs are not interchangeable between the 3400 and 3400A versions.
Q:Is the CPU pinout the same, so one could plug a 6800 in A model or 6802/8 in the first model?
A:No, the 6800 pinout is close to the 6802/6808, but different enough that you can't just plug them in. The 6802 includes
builtin clocking circuitry, 128 bytes of RAM (which is disabled in the ET-3400A), and changes the bus interface a bit.
One pin that is missing in the 6802/6808 is the TSC pin (tri-state-control). The ET-3400A has added circuitry to emulate
the behavior of that pin, so any experiments you do with the TSC feature still work properly on a ET-3400A
The 6808 is pin compatible with the 6802, but it doesn't have the builtin RAM. Clearly, this isn't a factor for the ET-3400A
and you can swap these parts in all ET-3400A boards.
