Fotothread: Historische Festplatten zerlegt

    Leider gibt es sehr wenige Bilder vom Inneren von Festplatten.

    Das ist ein wenig schade.

    Denn gerade solche Bilder vermitteln einen Eindruck über die Zeit und die Technologie.

    Deshalb möchte ich anregen, fotografisch festzuhalten, wenn Ihr irreparable historische Festplatten zerlegt.

    Um einen Start zu machen, zerlege ich jetzt eine frühe 15k Festplatte, eine U320 Seagate 18GB von 2000.

    Beginnen wir also mit dem Teardown.

    Zuerst mal alle Aufkleber abziehen, um verdeckte Schrauben zu finden.

    Dann das PCB auf der Rückseite abgenommen. Zum Vorschein kommt eine vergammelte, grossflächig von weiss nach gelb verfärbte, von selbst zerfallende Art "Faserfolie".

    Der Spindelmotoranschluss ist interessant, ohne Filmkabel

    Nach dem Entfernen aller Aufkleber und Schrauben wollte der Deckel immer noch nicht aufgehen.

    Nach vorsichtigem Aufhebeln mit dem Stechbeitel eröffnete sich ein schöner Anblick.

    Wegen Abwärme und Stabilität sind die dann halt recht ausladend.

    Auf die Schnelle habe ich drei offene Festplatten aus den 80ern aus meiner Vitrine genommen und fotografiert; weiter zerlegen wollte ich sie bisher nicht und staubig sind sie auch etwas... ;)

    Wow - das ist mal n Angebot ! Besten Dank ! Wobei ich dazu sagen muss, das das leider keine dauerhafte Ausstellung ist, sondern ne zeiltich befristete Aktion in einer örtlichen VHS - die auch schon n bischen her ist ... Vitrinenausstellung zum Thema Speicher

    Konnte dort aber schon einige Male kleine Ausstellungen durchführen - die sind, glaub ich, immer ganz froh, wenn dort nicht nur "Hardarbeitsartikel" und Töpferarbeiten in den Vitrinen liegen ...

    Und - wenn sich die Gelegenheit für eine Ausstellung ergibt, wird zugegriffen ;)

    Hallo Jonas,

    ich habe nur jeweils eine 8"- und 14"-Scheibe (14" auch als Stapel, siehe Bild), aber keine Köpfe und Mechanik. Falls Cartouce die Sachen also nicht braucht, dann würde sich meine Vitrine auch sehr darüber freuen... :tüdeldü:

    Laut oben verlinktem Video handelt es sich eindeutig um eine sogenannte "spanabhebende Datenverarbeitung". Ein (zu)treffender Terminus technicus (#).

    Superinteressantes Teil!

    Nicht nur die meines Eindrucks recht sparsame mechanische Ausführung, sondern auch das (nahezu) völlige Fehlen jeder Elektronik.

    Würde mich nicht weiter wundern, wenn der Controller ungefähr so komplex ist wie der Disk II Controller... hast Du da evtl. auch noch Fotos? :)

    Wie Dein (früheres) "Motto" halt sagt, Apple...

    Allein die kunstvolle ringförmige Ausführung der Hobelarbeit... habe sowas glaube ich noch nie gesehen.

    Vielleicht eine Betriebssystem/Filesystemfrage?

    Kann es vielleicht sein, dass die durch das gezielte Glätten von Superblöcken entstanden ist?

    Abgesehen von den künstlerischen Aspekten, die Kühlrippen an der Aussenseite sind interessant... scheint wohl nicht nur Seagate Wärmeprobleme bei 10k+ Platten empfunden zu haben.

    Meine darfst Du dafür auch explizit benutzen.

    Allerdings ist das wohl "stillschweigend" sowieso so geregelt, daß hochgeladene eigene Sachen automatisch unter einer CreativeCommons Lizenz landen, weshalb Du eigentlich alle quasi auch ohne explizite Erlaubnis benutzen können solltest. Keine Ahnung, ob mit Namen oder Quell-Nennung und ob nur nicht-kommerziell.

    Hier ist die Kopfarretierung gut zu sehen, welche die Köpfe in der Parkposition festhält.

    Ich war mir eigentlich sicher, dass die Platte aus Metall ist.

    Trotzdem ist sicherer, die Biege-Hebelprobe mit einem Splitterschutz (Mülltüte) herum zu machen.

    Die erforderliche Kraft zum Biegen war bei dieser Platte sehr klein.

    Vielleicht sollte ich zukünftig mit Messchieber auch immer ausmessen, wie stark die Scheiben sind.

    Bei klebenden Platten mach ich mir schon lange keine Mühe, andrehen hilft nur ne Zeitlang,

    Oder ist das ein anderer Fehler, vielleicht ein Quantum-Standardfehler?

    Gibts da vielleicht Links zu, wie man den erkennt und behebt?

    1TB ist definitiv bald retro :)
