IPX-basierte DOS-Spiele für die Netzwerk-Party

    Da ich jetzt ein IPX-Netzwerk laufen habe und wir vielleicht irgendwann mal bei einem Marburger Stammtisch eine Netzwerk-Party machen wollen, bin ich auf der Suche nach DOS-Spielen die über IPX funktionieren und die man mit 4-6 Leuten spielen kann. Die Spiele sollten auf 386er oder 486er DOS-PCs mit VGA oder SVGA laufen. Ohne CD-Laufwerke


    Duke Nukem 3D habe ich gerade angetestet. Das funktioniert prima und das wäre schon mal ein Kandidat.

    Command & Conquer war super, aber das wurde von CD gestartet, wenn ich mich richtig erinnere. Ausserdem gab es da früher immer Stress mit dem Kopierschutz.

    Grundsätzlich ist erst mal alles interessant, auch einfachere Spiele.

    Duke Nukem 3d läuft spielbar erst ab DX4/100, Doom und CC1 ab DX2.

    Mir fällt auch kein Spiel ein, welches ab 386 im Netzwerk läuft… daran wäre ich auch interessiert!

    Wir hatten sehr viel Spass gehabt mit bis zu 8 Leuten und

    hatten seinerzeit sogar noch Coax ( RG 58 ) Verbindungen.


    Einiges hab ich sogar noch als Original hier bei mir.

    Ok, Duke Nukem 3D habe ich jetzt natürlich nur in Virtual Box ausprobiert. Morgen Abend checke ich mal, was ein realer 486er dazu sagt.


    Fragen zu Novell oder IPX? Vor ein paar Tagen hätte ich nicht gesagt: keine Ahnung, alles weg. Aber inzwischen habe ich doch von dem alten Wissen einiges wieder ausgegraben. ;)

    Ich hatte das für den Marburger Stammtisch vorgeschlagen. Wenn der im Herbst wieder vor Ort stattfindet. Das ist aber eher ein kleiner Rahmen.

    Aber das ist noch nicht konkret und noch nicht mit den anderen Teilnehmern abgesprochen. Also erst mal nur eine Idee.


    Man könnte sowas auch auf den CC machen. Da könnte dann jeder, der mitmachen will, seinen eigenen DOS-PC mitbringen. Ist aber auch erst mal nur eine Idee meinerseits und ich weiß im Moment noch gar nicht, ob ich beim CC dabei sein kann. Aber ginge ja auch ohne mich. ;)

    Vielen Dank für die vielen Rückmeldungen. Vielleicht könnte man die Vorschläge jetzt noch auf Spiele eingrenzen, die man (inzwischen) frei herunterladen kann, die keinen Stress mit irgendeinem Kopierschutz machen und die eben möglichst auf einem 486er laufen (von mir aus auch DX2).


    Also (legale) Quellen wären gut.


    Bei C&C war z.B. damals das Problem, dass jeder Spiele eine Lizenz benötigte.

    Ich wuerde Originale CD bzw. CDs mitbringen.

    Bei Warcraft braucht man nur eine CD und die anderen sind Mitspieler die ohne lIzenz sich in das

    aufgemachte Spiel zufuegen koennen. Spawn hiess das glaube ich.

    Ich glaube bei Starcraft war das auch so.

    ganz viele der genannten Spiele benötigen einen Pentium, um spielbar zu laufen...

    Ich hatte das damals auch anders in Erinnerung- wohl, weil wir alle versuchten, mit einem 386 Doom spielen zu wollen. Damit trifft man aber im Netzwerk seinen Gegner NICHT, weils so ruckelt, dass man damit beschäftigt ist, überhaupt geradeaus laufen zu können. :D


    Echte 386-Netzwerkspiele fallen mir auf Anhieb keine ein. (Bzw. könnten in der Liste oben schon welche dabei sein, da sagen mir aber Einige nichts)

    Ich würde stilecht NETWARS (2.0) spielen, gehört quasi zu Netware und war bis auf die etwas fordernde Steuerung eigentlich ganz cool.

    Für IPX-Spiele muss man nur einen passenden IPX-Treiber für die Netzwerkkarte installieren. Das ist relativ trivial.

    Man braucht dafür weder einen Netware-Server noch Netware Light.

    Ok, also Duke Nukem 3D auf einem 486/33 geht tatsächlich nicht. Reagiert einfach viel zu träge.

    Außerdem musste ich auf 8 MB aufrüsten. 4 MB reichen anscheinend nicht.


    Jetzt weiß ich, warum ich mit dem Spiel damals nicht klar kam. :mrgreen:

    Gerade mal Doom angetestet. Das läuft prima auf dem 486er. Und Netzwerkfunktion ist auch ganz einfach.

    Jupp. Und mit Doom ist es annähernd so. Ich habs auf meinem Highscreen 486/SX25 installiert und scherzhalber mal einen DX33 verbaut.

    Kannst vergessen. Wie gesagt: Doom ab DX2/66, Duke Nukem 3d ab DX4/100- bzw. besser Pentium ab 90Mhz.

    Kann mich gut erinnern, als ich vor ein paar Monaten mit dem 486DX4-Neuaufbau begonnen hatte und ganz erstaunt war, dass Duke im Mittel mit etwa 15fps lief?! Früher dachte ich, es reicht ein DX2 für sowas... :D

    Das hatte sich jetzt gerade überschnitten. Also Doom auf einem 486/33 läuft, wie gesagt, ausreichend schnell.

    Ok, das mit den mehreren Monstern muss ich noch mal testen.


    Aber so ein bisschen Ruckeln gehört ja auch dazu. Das war eben so, bei den damaligen Netzwerkspielen.


    Ich weiß noch, dass C&C immer mal ein paar Gedenksekunden einlegte und jedesmal alle erleichtert waren, wenn es weiterlief und nicht die Netzwerkverbindung zusammenbrach. :mrgreen:

    Nö, irgendeine 0-8-15 VGA-Karte. Muss mal schauen, was ich da gerade reingesteckt habe - ist ja im Moment ein offener Aufbau.

    Kurze Zusammenfassung:

    Er verwendete eine wirklich flotte VLB-ET4000-Graka, 256kB Cache und ein gutes Board.

    Die Ergebnisse in Doom sind mehr als ernüchternd, mit nem 386/33 gerade mal 6,66FPS.
